Are you ready to rebuild trust in science? Do you need to communicate evidence differently? Would you like people to better understand your work?
Science is being questioned and denied like never before in this era of divisiveness, inflated food prices, and social media. Decisions are often made based on emotions, rather than evidence. Yet science has never been more critical for addressing major challenges like food security, climate change, and public health.
Science Story Speak helps you change the way you communicate and builds belief in scientific advancements. Declining trust in science hurts agriculture by limiting progress in modern farming technologies, hindering hunger relief, expanding regulations, increasing consumer questions about farming, and contributing to mental health challenges.
It is essential for people who work in agriscience to understand the diversity of mindsets and connect on an emotional level to influence decision-making. This need led Michele Payn and Amy Hays to co-author Science Story Speak, your guide to:
- Connecting with diverse audiences on a heart level
- Restoring interest in scientific discoveries
- Improving understanding of food, farming, and modern agriculture
- Crafting compelling narratives around critical issues
- Deepening your connections with customers
Agriculture's future depends on growing science literacy. Whether you're a researcher, farmer, educator, rancher, dietitian, or science advocate – it is time to cultivate your own story. Science Story Speak offers more than 40 interactive exercises across 17 chapters to help you communicate and connect at a different level.

She has helped to shape professional programs that teach others how to collaborate effectively with the agricultural community by delivering science in meaningful ways.
She has trained individuals, agencies, and organizations in Generational Intelligence to work cross-generationally to build capacity to apply longterm management solutions across landscapes. Amy specializes in strategy development for those involved in agriculture and conservation.
Her degrees are in Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences and Rangeland Ecology and Management. She has spent most of her career in outreach and engagement with working lands, the majority in public service.
