Baristas & food scientists to nutritionists & viticulturists – it’s time to consider the hands behind your Thanksgiving food plate. Michele is giving thanks for the MANY people working with food and agriculture this season; she invites you to do the same by joining in Foodthanks.
95% of the world’s food buyers worry about taste, cost & nutrition, not the quagmire of issues of agriculture’s vocal opponents. Michele points to examples of food apathy, such as only 9% of Americans can tell you how many calories they need in a day – and 5% are more sedentary than a year ago. Doesn’t it make sense to focus on the middle and connect with others doing the same, such as dietitians?
A mother who had to go back to work to cover legal costs. A dad who never had health issues now has visit the doctor for stress-induced illness. A little girl who worries that her family farm is going to be taken away. This is the reality of what activists do to family farmers. Call it a $200,000+ wake-up call for anyone who thinks it will never happen to them.
A group of Chicago students had a ride of a lifetime with popcorn farmer Brian Scott. He outlines his experiences with the students in this guest blog post to help others understand that the workings of a farm or ranch are not a normal thing for city kids – it’s a brain explosion.
