Technology, intellectual property & corporate control on farms

Are farmers under corporate control? How on earth is there intellectual property in food? And why is technology used in farming today?

Brian Scott answers these questions and more in a video on his Indiana family farm with Michele Payn. Brian, also known as @thefarmerslife, farms with his dad and grandpa to grow corn, soybeans, wheat and popcorn. He covers intellectual property, as well as his GMO seed contract, in chapter 33 of the Cereal Aisle in Food Truths from Farm to Table.

Popcorn farmer Brian ScottThis dad of two cute little boys also livestreamed with Michele from inside his combine cab in a much more extensive conversation where he describes GPS in farm equipment, autosteer, data collection, yield maps, GMOs, precision farming and more from his Indiana field.  You can watch on Facebook by clicking here. “At the end of the day, it’s not just about your biggest yield number, you want to take care of your land for future generations.”

Do you have questions about your food? There is no better place to learn than from farmers like Brian. Be sure to connect with him and check out other farmer videos on my new YouTube channel or under the Live Streaming section on my media page. Stay tuned for next week’s video.
