Blue’s First Birthday

As first time parents, HandyMan and I have enjoyed and celebrated all of Blue’s milestones. We cried when he was born, made funny faces to get that first smile and did the happy dance when he started sleeping through the night! As Blue continued to grow and develop we also celebrated rolling over, sitting up, babbling, solid foods, crawling and pulling to stand along with many other firsts. But this past week we celebrated the biggest milestone of Blue’s first year, his birthday!

Blue’s birthday arrived last week with mixed emotions. It was bittersweet because we were excited to have survived the first year, but sad at the same time that Blue is less of a baby and more of a toddler every day. As much as I am not a fan of the newborn days, he was so sweet and snuggly during that time and he is definitely not snuggly now. He wants to be up moving, crawling and getting into anything he can reach all day. The only time he snuggled was while nursing, but he recently gave that up as well. I’m excited about my toddler, but I’m missing my baby a little as well.

Mixed emotions or not, we couldn’t let Blue’s birthday pass without a party, so this past weekend we celebrated Blue’s birthday with our family. I made Blue his very own birthday cake and, as predicted, he dove right in when we gave it to him.

Happy Birthday Blue!

Big bad agriculture: a transparent look at their science & safety

The biggest misconception about my work is that agriculture companies place pesticides or biotech products on the market without testing them for safety. The fact is that agriculture is one of the most strictly regulated and thoroughly investigated industries in the world. Agriculture companies must strictly follow local and international regulatory guidelines and conduct hundreds of safety studies before launching a product.
