Serving in Authenticity

Sharing agriculture’s messages

I was nervous – really nervous – as in, why on earth did I ever agree to do this type of nerves. While enjoying some downtime later, I realized that’s because I was afraid that i couldn’t be authentic.

Agriculture makes an incredible case study. Having ____ people  engaged.

Every once in awhile, you need to have your socks knocked off by your community. First, it’s humbling. Secondly, those moments are the ones that reach down and yank at your heart strings. Motivation.

Pictures of farmers & ranchers, our families, animals, crops and food speak volumes without any words.

People from all over the world respond when personally asked to help showcase ag.

It feels good to help people, even when you’re not so sure you have anything to offer.

Sometimes you benefit more from the favors you do for friends.

Standing in service is the right thing to do – even though some will point to self-promotion or underlying motive.

I’m grateful. For the many who took time out of their Saturday afternoon.

Tweeting pictures of shoes is highly entertaining. Surprisingly, several men even remarked.

Putting messages in others’ terms creates an entirely different result than “you need to know.” (e.g. GPS, dissipating organic vs. conventional) – and is also a great mental challenge.

The end result? Inspiration to keep connecting people around the food plate – with a microphone at my place setting.  This experience led me to create a new keynote “Authentically Agriculture.” It’s designed to be a motivational opening or close to agricultural meetings, filled with photos and words about what it means to stand in 100% authenticity for agriculture.  I’ll be looking to help people in the audience take a hard look “who am I” as a part of thought leadership for our business, then provoke ideas around “what does that mean to others” and then provide actionable steps t through “how do I translate agriculture to them.”

How are you serving others?
